Manuel Puig - Kiss of the Spider Woman - The Movie
Having made a rash purchase from Amazon in the pre Xmas blitz we finally got round to watching Kiss - The Movie last night. I so wish I hadn't. I was so disappointed!
I enjoyed the book so much, the clever, unusual styles, mixed together with interesting characters and subject matter made for a brilliant read and I was curious to see how they would manage to incorporate all this into a film - they didn't!
Most of the intertextual films were missed, the footnotes which add such an unusual dimension to the book were not figured at all and I felt that the characters did not gel in the way they had in print.
I was amazed to see that William Hurt, who plays Molina, won an Oscar for his role and the prominent reviews of the time were all quite favourable. It must be me. I think I will just stick to the books in future.
Here are a few reveiw links for your info.

Should anybody wish to view the film it is available on You Tube along with exerts from the Broadway musical version. I will however be donating my DVD copy to the LRC once I have finished my assignment.
Let me know what you think.......
