Laura Mulvey - The Male Gaze - Links to follow up and add to your understanding

Over Christmas the BBC have shown a couple of programmes about Hitchcock.  These have been fascinating to watch when considered in view of the way Hitchcock viewed his leading ladies and with Mulvey's essay in mind.

These are the links to the programmes.

  1. This provides an excellent insight into The Male Gaze, a concept that I have previously found difficult to understand. The Links definitely act as a visual aid to my understanding of Mulvey's essay.

  2. Thank you, glad they helped.
Reading in this weekend's paper Catlin Moran was describing the Gaze and a bit of Berger's Ways of Seeing in the context of the only place women are not on show to be gazed at is in a shop changing room. What about all the mirrors ---- How many pairs of eyes are looking at you then!!! I know they are all your own but isn't most women's harshest critic herself?
